Mexico is the country just south of the United States and north of Guatemala. Its capital is Mexico City. People there speak Spanish, and many are Roman Catholic. Before the Spanish arrived, great Native American peoples lived there, including the Mexica — the people English speakers often call the . Mexico has given a lot to life in the US, especially food and words. In English we usually say MEK-si-koh. Mexican is the everyday word for people and things from Mexico. Though actually, New Mexico is not part of Mexico — it is a state in the US that borrowed the name.
