Meow is the usual American spelling of the cat sound that British English often . It is the noise a house cat makes, and people also use it as a verb (the cat meowed) and as a little cry in comics, texts, and children’s books. It is a sound written down, not a word built from Latin pieces. It comes from an older English form (from Middle English mewen, mouwen), which you may still meet in poems, or for some bird cries; for house cats, meow and took over in the 1800s, perhaps because no longer sounded enough like the real noise. Some spellings were shaped to look like French miaou. In chat, people also type meow for cute or playful talk, not only when a cat is in the room.
組成A sound-word. An alteration of earlier mew, from Middle English mewen, mouwen, made to match the cat noise; some spellings followed French miaou. It does not split into meaningful pieces.
