You can use Mauritanian as a noun (a Mauritanian / the Mauritanians) or as an adjective (Mauritanian law). Though actually, the word is a completely different people: they come from Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean. If you mix the two, you have put someone on the wrong continent.
