If something is Masonic, it belongs to : a private men's society, hundreds of years old, whose members meet in a “lodge.” They keep special signs, clothes, and old building tools as symbols — a square and compasses are the famous ones. You will hear a Masonic lodge, Masonic ritual, Masonic symbols, a Masonic temple. It is a describing word for things and ideas, not usually for a person: you say he is a Mason, or a , not “he is a Masonic.” The word feels rather formal, and you meet it in news, history, and buildings more than in everyday chat. Though actually the name comes from stone masons, the people who cut and laid stone, because the society copied the old craft clubs. In ordinary English, masonry is brick and stone work; Masonic with this sense points to the society.
組成Mason (“Freemason”) + -ic (“of / connected with”). Mason itself comes from mason, a person who works with stone.
