Mallow is a plant with soft, roundish leaves and flowers that are usually pink, purple, or a pale mauve. It often grows at the edge of paths and fields; some kinds are treated as weeds, and some are grown in gardens for the bloom. The flowers look a little like small hibiscus flowers. Though actually, the sweet called a marshmallow was first made from the sticky root of a mallow that grows in wet, ground; the ones in packets today are sugar and , with no plant in them at all. The colour word mauve comes down from the same old Latin plant name.
