Maladministration is when people in charge of an office, a government department, a school, or a company run things badly — , , or . It is a stiff, official word: you meet it in complaints, ombudsman reports, and news about public money, not in chat about a messy bedroom. It can mean simple (files lost, rules ignored, nobody answering) or something darker (, hiding the truth). It names the running of an organisation, not a person’s feelings. In British and some Commonwealth English it is a set legal-sounding term; American English more often says mismanagement or corruption, depending on how serious the failure is.
