A magstripe is the magnetic stripe on a plastic card — a credit card, ATM card, or hotel key — where information is stored . A machine reads it when you push or swipe the card through. Mag- is just a short, informal clip of magnetic. Though actually, many cards now also have a chip, and phones often pay by tap; the magstripe is the older dark strip on the back. People still swipe it when the chip does not work. You will hear this word in banking, hotels, and machine manuals more than in school English. It is a work word, not a poem word.
