When food is macrobiotic, it is mostly whole grains — especially brown rice — and vegetables, cooked in a simple way, with no added chemicals. People who eat this way often also use beans, , and a little fish, and they try to eat food that is in season rather than food from a factory. It is an adjective: a macrobiotic diet, macrobiotic cooking. The matching noun, macrobiotics, names that way of eating. You will meet the word in health-food shops, café menus, and books about natural living, not in everyday talk about what most families had for dinner. Though actually, people stretch it. Some just mean “very healthy and not processed,” even when the meal is not a strict macrobiotic one. The old idea behind the word is food for a long life, not merely “green” or “light.”
長壽飲食的(台灣自然飲食圈也常直接說 macrobiotic;不是泛稱的「健康餐」,較接近全穀、蔬食、少加工)
組成From macro- (“large, long”) + -biotic (“about living things”). Both pieces come from Greek: makrós “long, large,” and a piece related to bios “life.” So the older idea is “for a long life.”
