To machine-gun someone or something is to shoot at them with a machine gun — a gun that keeps very fast while you hold the trigger. This sense is the verb, not the name of the weapon. News reports use it for real shooting: troops machine-gunned the trucks. The forms are machine-gun, machine-gunned, machine-gunning, usually with a so it does not look like two separate verbs. Though actually, people sometimes stretch it, in informal talk, to a camera “machine-gunning” a celebrity with photos — a burst of shots, no bullets. That is a joke use. The first meaning you should learn is the gun.
