Lysistrata is the lead woman in a funny ancient Greek play of the same name, by Aristophanes. The men of Athens have been away at war for a long time. She is angry, and she talks the women of the city into a sharp protest: they will not have sex with their husbands until the men make peace. The play is a comedy — rude, noisy, and full of jokes about bodies and — not a sweet love story. Her Greek name means something like she who breaks up the army. People still say the name in literature class, and when they talk about a sex strike as protest. It is a proper name, always with a capital L, and it belongs to that character and that play.
