Lymph is a clear, pale liquid that moves around inside you in its own thin tubes, not in the same as blood. It picks up leftover fluid from between your cells, and it carries white blood cells that help you fight . Small lumps called lymph nodes filter it — the ones that swell in your neck when you have a cold. You do not see lymph the way you see blood from a cut; it is a body-science word, used when people talk about infection, swelling, and some cancers. Though actually, the name is cousin to an old word for clear spring water, which is why it sits beside nymph, the water spirit — same far-back root, very different meaning now.
