Luxe is a short, shiny way of saying that something is expensive and of very good quality. Magazines, hotel ads, and fashion shops love it: a luxe hotel, a luxe fabric, a luxe stay. You will also see it as a noun, especially in phrases like “a touch of luxe,” meaning that rich, special feeling rather than a single object you can hold.

Though actually, this is not the everyday word. When people talk at the table, they still say luxury, luxurious, or just expensive and nice. Luxe belongs to glossy writing. It sounds a little French on purpose, because it is French, and it makes a product feel like a magazine page. It is not a joke and not rude — only a bit dressed-up. If a student never uses it in their own speaking, that is fine; they mainly need to recognise it when a caption or an advert flashes it at them.
