    Lugubriously is how you do something in that very sad, serious way: you speak lugubriously, shake your head lugubriously, play a tune lugubriously. It tells you about the action, not the person as a fixed quality. Same tone as lugubrious — , a little theatrical, and often quietly comic because it is so much. Still a writer's word more than a playground word.
