Lucre means money or wealth, but you say it when you do not like the money — when it feels greedy, dirty, or not quite honest. Nobody uses it for their salary in ordinary talk. The phrase people still know is filthy lucre: money that sticks to you in a bad way. It sounds old, , and a bit now; a news writer or a preacher might use it, a teenager almost never. Lucrative (the adjective) can be quite calm and practical; lucre almost always its nose.
