    Lotion is a thin liquid mix you put on skin or hair to clean it, make it softer, or protect it. Hand lotion and body lotion are the everyday kind — runnier than a thick cream. Calamine lotion is a medicine you dab on itchy skin. Though actually, shops and speakers mix lotion, cream, and rather loosely; a bottle labelled lotion is usually more watery than a cream. The word is ordinary in British and American English, not fancy. There is a rare verb “to lotion” (to put lotion on), but almost only need the noun.
