A look-see is a quick look — you go, you glance, you check, you come back. People say have a look-see, take a look-see, want a look-see. It is informal and a little old-fashioned or now; some speakers still like it, others find it cute. It does not mean a long study or an official inspection, though a boss might use it lightly for a short visit (“I’ll pop over for a look-see”). You can use it as a verb too, but the noun is the usual one. It is not the same as look like or look after.
