Something long-lasting continues for a long time. A long-lasting battery, long-lasting colour, a long-lasting friendship, a long-lasting peace: it does not fade, break, or disappear quickly. The word is usually a plus — you wanted it to stay. You can use it for objects, feelings, and effects. It is close to lasting, but long-lasting makes the “a long time” part extra clear. It is not quite the same as long-lived (which often talks about lives, or how many years a show or company has existed) and not the same as long-drawn-out (which means too long in a bad way). In shops and ads it is very common: long-lasting wear, long-lasting freshness.
