Loathing is the feeling: a very strong hate or disgust. You feel loathing; you look at something with loathing; there is loathing in someone’s voice.
Loathing憎惡 is是 the feeling那種感覺:a very strong hate or disgust一種很強烈的恨意或厭惡。You feel loathing你可以「感覺到」loathing;you look at something with loathing可以「帶著」loathing看某樣東西;there is loathing in someone's voice也可以說某人的聲音裡「帶著」loathing。
It is heavier than dislike, and a bit more bodily than a cool, thought-out hate — closer to “I cannot stand this.” People use it in stories and in serious talk; it is not a playground word, but it is not rare either.
It它 is heavier比較重 than dislike跟dislike比,and比 a cool, thought-out hate跟冷靜、想清楚的恨相比 it is a bit more bodily又更帶點生理上的感覺——closer to "I cannot stand this."比較接近「我受不了這個」的感覺。People use it in stories and in serious talk大家會在故事和嚴肅的談話裡用這個字;it is not a playground word它不是小孩子玩鬧的用詞,but it is not rare either但也不算少見。
Though actually, the same spelling is also the -ing form of the verb (“loathing the smell”), so you will see it doing verb-work as well as naming the feeling. The entry you need first is the feeling-noun.
Though actually不過其實,the same spelling同樣的拼法 is also也是 the -ing form of the verb loathe動詞loathe的-ing形式 ("loathing the smell")(像「loathing the smell」這樣),so you will see it doing verb-work as well as naming the feeling所以你會看到它除了當感覺的名詞,也在做動詞的工作。The entry you need first你最先需要知道的義項 is is the feeling-noun是這個「感覺名詞」的用法。
It pairs with (the verb) and (the describing word for the thing that causes it).
It它 pairs with跟 loathe (the verb)loathe(動詞) and還有 loathsome (the describing word for the thing that causes it)loathsome(形容造成這種感覺的東西的形容詞) 配成一組。
