Livery originally meant a special uniform or matching set of clothes given to servants by a rich household, so that everyone could tell at a glance who they worked for. Today the word survives mostly in a different but related way: a company's livery is its special colors and design used on things like vehicles, uniforms, or planes, so people can recognize the brand (an airline's red-and-white livery, for example). An old "livery stable" was a place where you could pay to keep, rent, or borrow a horse.
