A Liverpudlian is a person from Liverpool, the big port city in the north-west of England. You can also put it in front of a noun: a Liverpudlian accent, Liverpudlian humour, Liverpudlian football. That is the same word doing two jobs — naming the person, and naming the style of the city. In everyday talk, people from Liverpool often call themselves Scousers. Liverpudlian is the same people, but it sounds a little more like a newspaper label — though actually locals use both, and neither is an insult. The city is famous for the Beatles, for two big football clubs, and for quick, dry jokes, and the word often carries a little of that pride.
