You almost always meet this word in one set phrase: the livelong day, sometimes the livelong night. It means the whole day (or night), with the feeling that it went on and on. “She cried the livelong day” means she cried all day, and it felt long. It is old and a little like a song or a story, not office English. It does not mean live long. The first piece is an old word lief, meaning dear or beloved — “the dear long day”. Dutch and German have the same kind of phrase. Today almost nobody uses livelong outside that phrase.
