A lithograph is a printed picture made by lithography. It is a print, not a one-off painting: the image was taken from a treated stone (in the old method) or a metal plate (now), so more than one copy can exist. Artists still make lithographs, and galleries treat a good one as a real work, not as a cheap poster — though in the street people may just say “a print.” The word is at home in art class and museums more than in daily conversation. It is not a photograph. A lithograph is drawn and printed from a greasy image on stone or plate, not captured by a camera.
