Liberalization is the process of making a system, a set of laws, or a moral climate less strict. You hear it most about money and trade: a country its markets when foreign firms may enter, or when the state stops fixing every price. You also hear it about social rules — who may marry, what you may say, how tightly a church or a school controls people. It is a noun for the change itself, not for the people who believe in liberalism. Though actually a strict government can one corner of the economy and stay strict everywhere else. British spelling often uses s: liberalisation. Same word.
