The short form of 'let us'. You say it to suggest doing something together with the person or people you are talking to.

You can think of it as opening a door and through it together: it is 'let us' squeezed into one word, so the speaker is not giving an order to the other person — they are putting themselves inside the action too. Let's go means you and I, both of us, now. That is why it sounds friendly rather than : whatever is being suggested, the speaker is doing it as well.
