- 1
Something lemony smells or tastes of lemon: bright, a little sour, and fresh. You can have a lemony sauce, a lemony cake, a lemony cleaning smell. It is almost always about flavour or smell, not about colour alone — for colour people more often say lemon-yellow. It is a friendly, everyday word. Though actually it does not carry the other English use of lemon, the one for a car or a thing that keeps going wrong; lemony stays with the fruit.
