Leicestershire is a county in central England — a stretch of land with towns, countryside, local government, and a main city called Leicester. English counties like this often end in -shire, an old word for a district. You will see the name on maps, weather reports, and sports pages. People who live there may say they are “from Leicestershire”; people far away may only know the city. The spelling looks long and heavy, but English speakers do not say every letter.
