Leave-taking is the act of saying goodbye when you go away — the moment of , not the trip itself. It often sounds a little old, formal, or like a storybook. In everyday talk most people just say goodbye, or saying goodbye, or they use the older phrase take one's leave. You will meet leave-taking in novels, news, and careful writing: a long leave-taking at a station, a quiet leave-taking after a funeral. It can be warm or stiff, short or drawn out; the word only names the goodbye, not the feeling. It is almost always about people going, not about leaving a job or leaving food on a plate.
leave-taking 指離開時跟人道別的行為或那一刻，重點在分開的時刻，不是旅行本身。這個字聽起來常有點老派、正式，或像小說裡的語氣。日常口語裡，大家多半直接說再見，或用比較舊的說法「take one's leave」。你比較會在小說、新聞和講究文字的文章裡遇到它，例如「a long leave-taking」指車站裡一段很長的道別，「a quiet leave-taking」則是葬禮後安靜的告別。
