In the United States, a Latina is a woman or girl whose family comes from Latin America — Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Argentina, and the other countries of that region. The matching word for a man is Latino. A mixed group is often called Latinos, though some people now write Latino/a, Latinx, or Latine, and many people would rather be named by their country. The word is about family and place in the Americas, not about speaking Latin, the old language of Rome. Hispanic is a nearby US-form word for Spanish-speaking background; it does not line up perfectly with Latino/Latina, and people argue about both labels. Some women are happy to be called Latina; some are not. Use the word people use for themselves when you can. In Taiwan we usually reach for 拉丁裔. It is ordinary US English, a little more at home in news and school talk than in a British textbook.
組成From Spanish latina, the feminine of latino. The Spanish words sit on Latin, the old Roman name, but here the meaning is Latin America, not Ancient Rome.
