Kyushu九州 is是 the most southern of Japan's four main islands日本四個主要島嶼裡最南邊的一個, and而且 the third largest第三大的一個。Fukuoka福岡 is是 the big modern city這座島北邊的現代化大城市 in the north of the island; Nagasaki長崎 is是 the famous port西邊那個有名的港口 in the west。It它 is是 warmer than much of Japan比日本大部分地方都溫暖, volcanic有火山, and green又很綠。
English just borrows the Japanese name. In Japanese it is 九州, literally “nine provinces” — an old way of counting the districts on that island. Students who already know Chinese will recognise the characters, though actually Chinese 九州 is also an old name for China itself, so the same writing can point at two different maps.
English英文 just borrows只是借用了 the Japanese name日文的名字。In Japanese在日文裡 it它 is是 九州, literally字面上是 “nine provinces”「九個行政區」 — an old way of counting古時候計算 the districts on that island那座島上各個地區的方式。Students學生 who already know Chinese已經懂中文的 will recognise the characters會認得這些字, though actually不過其實, Chinese中文的「九州」 九州 is also也是 an old name一個古老的名字 for China itself指中國本身, so所以 the same writing同樣的寫法 can point at可以指向 two different maps兩個不同的地方。
In English, Kyushu means the Japanese island.
In English在英文裡, Kyushu Kyushu means指的是 the Japanese island那座日本的島。
組成From Japanese 九(きゅう)州(しゅう) (Kyūshū, literally “Nine States”), from Middle Chinese 九 (kjúw, “nine”) + 州 (t͡ʃjuw, “province, prefecture”).
