    Kurdish means belonging to the — their people, their culture, or their language. As an adjective: a Kurdish town, a Kurdish festival. As a noun, Kurdish is the language. Though actually, it is not one single language in the neat way a textbook map might suggest. There are several Kurdish varieties; Kurmanji and Sorani are the ones you hear about most, and they are different enough that speakers cannot always understand each other easily. The word is simply plus the old English ending -ish, “belonging to.”
