Kleptomania is a strong, repeated urge to steal things, even when the person does not need them and can often pay. People talk about it as a mental-health problem, not as a clever crime plan. The things taken may be small and cheap; the drive is the point, not the money. Though actually, people use the word loosely in jokes — “I have kleptomania for stickers” — but doctors mean something narrower: tension before taking the thing, relief after, and not stealing from hunger, anger, or a plan to get rich. It is not a fancy for theft.
