Kindliness is the quality of being kind and caring toward other people. It names a whole manner, not one favour: a gentle, lasting way of treating others. Though actually, most people now say kindness. Kindliness is the older, quieter twin. You meet it in stories, older books, and careful praise — when someone wants to talk about a person's soft heart, not a single good deed. It is not slang, and it is not a hard legal word; it just sounds a little literary. A kindliness that fills a room is warmth you can feel. It never means “sort” or “type” (that is another use of kind), and it has nothing to do with fire.

組成kindly + -ness. Kindly here is the older adjective meaning kind and gentle; -ness turns that into a noun for a quality (as in goodness). Kindly itself is king-less: it is kind + -ly. From kindly + -ness.
