To kindle a fire means to start it burning, usually beginning with small, easy-to-burn pieces of wood before it grows bigger. Kindle is also used about feelings - to kindle hope, interest, or love in someone means to make that feeling start and begin to grow. You may also know 'Kindle' with a capital letter as the name of Amazon's e-reader device, named after this word to suggest lighting a love of reading.
