A type of protein found in the body called an enzyme, whose job is to add a small chemical tag (a phosphate group) onto other molecules. This small change works like a switch — it turns other proteins on or off, which is how our cells send signals and control what happens inside them. You'll usually meet this word in biology or medicine.
