Kiddo is a friendly, informal way for an adult to speak to a young person, like saying kid with a little extra warmth. A parent might say, Come here, kiddo. It often sounds American, and a bit old-fashioned or . Though actually, it is not always kind in effect. Said to a teenager, or to another adult, it can feel as if you are putting them in a child's place. It is not a rude word by itself — but people do not always like being called kiddo. You would not write it in a formal letter or use it with a teacher.
