Kenya is a country in East Africa. It became independent from Britain in 1963 and is a member of the Commonwealth. English and Swahili are both widely used. The capital is Nairobi, a large busy city — though actually many pictures show only safari parks, as if the whole country were a zoo. People do visit to see wild animals, and coffee and tea are important crops, but Kenyans also live and work in cities, on farms, and on the coast. The country is named after Mount Kenya. After the 2007 presidential election there was serious violence over the result; that is part of its recent history, not a description of daily life now. In English the name is ordinary geography, said the same in news and in travel talk.
組成From the name of Mount Kenya. Several stories are told: from Kikuyu kere nyaga ('white mountain'), because the top has snow; from Kamba kii nyaa ('ostrich mountain'); or from Kikuyu kĩrĩma ('mountain'). Scholars do not all agree, so the honest answer is that it comes from the mountain, and the exact local words are still argued over.
