Jobbing describes someone who does small pieces of work for different people, rather than holding one steady post with one employer. A jobbing gardener goes from house to house. A jobbing is called when a tap breaks. A jobbing actor takes whatever small part they can get. It is usually an adjective in front of a job-name, and it often sounds a little British or old-fashioned. The feeling is: skilled enough, but not on staff, paid per job. Though actually, it is not the same as part-time — part-time is fewer hours at one place; jobbing is moving around from one small job to the next.
