1. 1

The Jetsons is an American cartoon from the Hanna-Barbera studio — the same people who made The Flintstones. It first ran in 1962–63, then kept coming back through the 1960s and 1970s. New episodes were made in 1985, and the film Jetsons: The Movie came out in 1990. The show follows a family in a cheerful space-age future: flying cars, a robot maid, push-button houses. George, Jane, Judy, Elroy, the dog Astro, and Rosie the robot are the names people remember. The Flintstones were the stone-age joke; the Jetsons were the future joke. In English, someone may say a kitchen looks very Jetsons when they mean that shiny 1960s idea of tomorrow. It is a proper name, capital J. Younger students may never have seen it; older people, and anyone who likes old cartoons, often have.
