    Jackass is a rude word for a person you find stupid and . You say it when someone is being foolish, loud, or on purpose, not when they simply made a small mistake. It is an insult, informal, and too rough for class, for a teacher, or for anyone you need to stay polite with. The picture underneath is an animal: a jackass is a male donkey (jack for the male, ass for the donkey). Calling a person that is calling them a stupid donkey. English still uses the animal sense in farming talk, but what most meet is the insult. A TV show later made jackass familiar as reckless stunt-foolery; that flavour sits on top of the older “foolish person” meaning. There is also a body-part word ass in English; in this compound the old meaning is the donkey, though speakers hear the roughness of both.

組成jack (male of some animals, or the name Jack used that way) + ass (donkey). Literally a male donkey; as a person-word, a rude “stupid donkey.”
