An ISA is an Individual Savings Account, a British savings plan. Britain's Labour government brought it in in 1999. You put money in, in your own name, and within the rules you usually do not pay tax on the interest or the gains. People say an ISA or my ISA, the way they name a product they hold at a bank. It is everyday money language in Britain, and quite specific to that country. Taiwan does not use this same plan or this same name. Though actually, the letters ISA can stand for other things in other fields; in this entry they mean only this tax-free British savings account. It is not a person's name, and it is not the American IRA, which is a different kind of savings box with different rules.
