Iraqi means “from Iraq, or to do with Iraq,” and it is also the word for a person from that country. You say Iraqi oil, Iraqi families, the Iraqi army, and “He is Iraqi.” It is not the country’s name — that is Iraq. Iraq is the oil-producing country in southwest Asia between Iran and Saudi Arabia; its capital is Baghdad; under Saddam Hussein it fought Iran, invaded Kuwait in 1990, and was itself invaded in 2003 by US-led forces looking for weapons that were not found. Iraqi is the adjective and the people-word for all of that. Though actually, English does not say “Iraqian.” The form is Iraqi, from an Arabic ending, and it must not be mixed with Iranian.
組成Borrowed from Arabic عِرَاقِيّ (ʕirāqiyy, “Iraqi”), equivalent to Iraq + -i, the Arabic ending that means “from that place.”
