If someone is introverted, they are quiet and tend not to enjoy big groups; they would rather keep to a few people, or to themselves. Books for often say shy as well, and that is how a lot of everyday English uses the word. Though actually a person can be introverted without being scared of people — they may simply find crowds , and feel more like themselves after time alone. Introverted is the ordinary adjective from (an introverted student, introverted habits). It feels a little more formal than just saying quiet, but you will hear it at school, at work, and in personality quizzes. It describes a tendency, not a prison: an introverted person can still give a speech or go to a wedding; they may just need a quieter day afterwards.
