An intro is a short beginning. In a song, it is the first part before the singing or the main tune starts — a few bars that set the mood. In a piece of writing or a talk, it is the opening bit that gets you in before the main idea. People also say the intro to the show for the short sequence at the start of a TV programme. It is informal and friendly. The full word is introduction; intro is the short everyday form, especially in music and media. Though actually, in careful school or university writing you still say introduction, not intro. Young people in bands and on social media use intro all the time. There is a looser spoken use too — Let me intro you, meaning let me introduce you to someone — but the meaning you will meet in songs and texts is this short opening part.

組成A shortened form of introduction. The cut removes the second half of that word. Introduction came from Latin introductio, a leading in: intro- (into, inward) plus a piece related to lead. That intro- piece goes back to a very old word for inner, what is inside.
