Interment is the act of burying a dead body — putting it into the ground, usually with a funeral. You hear it in formal writing, notices, and law: “The interment will take place on Friday.” Ordinary people more often say burial. It is a quiet, respectful word, not a medical one, and not a word for any kind of hiding. Though actually, students mix it up all the time with internment, which has an extra n and means locking people up, as in a camp. Completely different story. Interment is about the grave.
