To intercept someone or something is to stop them on the way, before they arrive. A pass in sport, a letter, a truck, a runner — if it was going from A to B and you cut in and catch it, you intercept it. Police intercept a van; a player intercepts a ball. The picture is always the middle of the journey, not the start and not the end. Though actually, it is not the same as interrupt, which is breaking into a talk, and not the same as accept, which is saying yes.
