When animals interbreed, a male from one group and a female from another group have babies. The groups may be different breeds of dog, or animals that are close but not quite the same. Farmers and scientists use this word. The young are mixed. Though actually, not every mix works: some animals live side by side and still cannot have young together. People almost never use this word about humans in careful talk — it belongs to animals. Do not mix it with inbreed, which is having babies inside a very small family group. That is a different, often unhealthy, idea.
