If something is inspiring, it gives people a lift — excitement, and a wish to do something fine. A teacher, a story, a mountain view, a teammate who will not quit: all of these can be inspiring. It is the everyday adjective from the verb inspire, and it still sounds like a feeling, not a product. You can also meet inspiring as the -ing form of the verb: she is inspiring the team. Though actually, people now stick inspiring on almost anything they like (‘this sandwich is inspiring’), and that stretch is half a joke. Compared with inspirational, this one is warmer and less like a poster. If a person is inspiring, you want to be a bit more like them; if a talk is only ‘inspirational’, it may just be well packaged.
