Insemination is the act of putting sperm into a woman or a female animal so she can have a baby. It is the noun that belongs with the verb . The phrase you will meet most is artificial insemination: a doctor, a vet, or a farmer places the sperm there on purpose, in a hospital or on a farm. Though actually, students sometimes think insemination means pregnancy. It does not. Insemination is only the step of getting the sperm there. If it works, sperm and egg may join, and then a pregnancy may follow — those are later steps with their own names. You will hear the word in clinics, on farms, and in biology class, not in casual talk.
