Insectivorous describes a creature — or a plant — that eats insects. An insectivorous animal is an : it lives on bugs. A few plants are insectivorous too. They catch flies or other small insects and use them as food. Though actually, with plants the story is a little looser than the tidy word suggests. Those plants still make food from sunlight; the insects are more like an extra feed, especially when the soil is poor. People still call them insectivorous plants, and that is the word you will meet. It is a textbook adjective, a little more formal than , and you would not use it about a person who simply dislikes a .
