Inoculation is the act of someone — the treatment, or one of the shots, that puts a weak form of a disease into the body so the person is protected later. You can say “an inoculation” for one treatment, or talk about inoculation as the method. In everyday English, vaccination, vaccine, shot, or jab is what most people say. Inoculation is more formal and medical. It is the noun that sits beside the verb .
